"Cancellation Births The Poem: The Act of Slicing Twisted Thoughts Become The Winding Slits That Gently Open Up to Familiar Moments of Suspended Awe", Amanda Yeo

/ Amanda Yeo dived into Fine Arts only to find themself drawn to the world of community building work. They are wondering how their artistic practice of lens-based documentation and facilitation practice in the workplace are in synergy. It remains mysterious but fortunately, they are having fun. They interact with poetry from a fascination with the simultaneous indispensability and futility of language.

/ COMMENTARY

I mean, that title! It seems to me an answer to the other poems I had selected for this issue, an answer to the question of how to represent or deal with grief, failure, or trauma in art. This is a deeper version of the Leonard Cohen cliché (there, I said it) — Amanda suggests that poetry or art itself is insufficient and some form of rupture into the infinite is also needed. More awe, that which provokes a sense of wonder and even slight dread.
